Cooper Maple Leaf 45

So rarely does the opportunity to acquire a Cooper Maple Leaf 45 of this caliber and class arise in the marketplace. Built in Canada, the hull for this Maple Leaf was laid in 1988 during a time when robust fiberglass construction was the norm. This particular vessel began as a custom project for a private owner with a dream for a fully appointed cruising yacht. Before he could complete his dream, however, he unexpectedly passed, and the vessel remained incomplete for years as part of the family estate before being professionally finished and commissioned in 2007.

“Way She Goes II” is a cruiser if ever there was one, and is enjoyable in conditions both fair and foul. On deck, the center cockpit configuration is paired with a recently redone hardtop, delivering effective protection from sun and weather while maintaining clear sightlines from the helm. Deck space is well distributed, with a loungable fore- and aft deck, in addition to the protected cockpit suitable for extended time underway. The integrated sugar scoop transom and swim platform provide easy and secure access from the water or dinghy.

This vessel is set up with long-term cruising in mind. Key systems and equipment have been updated, including a watermaker and a new solar array to support extended time off-grid. Sail inventory and rigging have also been refreshed with a Precision Sails mainsail and genoa, along with new running and standing rigging — these are major ownership outlays that have already been completed, saving new owners significant time and money.

Below deck, the interior is finished in cherry cabinetry complemented by maple soles, creating a warm and relaxing living environment. The main cabin combines a generous galley with a functional saloon, offering a practical space for daily living and entertaining. Accommodations are arranged for privacy and comfort, with a spacious aft owner’s cabin featuring a centerline queen berth and ensuite head with separate shower and half tub. Forward, a large V-berth and private wet head provide a distinct guest area.

A comprehensive refit completed in December 2024 addressed core mechanical and electrical systems, including upgrades to the engine and drive components and a full electrical overhaul with integrated Victron systems. The vessel was hauled in May 2025 for additional improvements, including topside repainting and installation of a new 100L stainless steel diesel day tank. The next scheduled haul-out is planned for May 2026 in Guaymas, Sonora.

The current owners have cruised the vessel in Pacific Mexico for the past three years and are now ready to pass the torch to new adventurers. Way She Goes II is offered as a well-prepared, extensively updated cruising yacht, positioned in San Carlos, Sonora, an established gateway to the Sea of Cortez and one of the region’s most accessible cruising areas.

Accommodations

Entering the main cabin, the layout opens immediately to a spacious salon with a well-appointed galley to port, nav station to starboard, and main dining and seating area beyond. The C-shaped galley follows a practical, seagoing configuration with a gimballed propane range and an integrated refrigerator/freezer set into the counter, deep double stainless steel sink with spray nozzle, and folding leaf to extend counter space when desired. Storage is substantial throughout, with cabinetry above and below finished in cherry hardwood and matching veneers.

Forward of the galley, the saloon provides a large and functional dining area with a bench settee opposite to starboard, arranged to support both everyday use and extended time aboard. Behind the dining settee are recesses and additional cabinets for storage. The extra long bench settee is long enough to accommodate another person lying down, again with recessed spaces and cabinetry in behind. The white vinyl headliner contrasts beautifully with the warm cherry brightwork, creating a warm and inviting space. There are overhead handrails that also run the length of the salon for safety and stability underway.

Just aft of the saloon is the navigation station, positioned for easy access while underway. Connected to the nav station and continuing aft along the passageway to the Master aft stateroom is a dedicated workbench.

The Master aft stateroom is notably generous in its spaciousness, offering over 6 feet of standing headroom, a centerline queen berth, and a private head. The head is configured with a separate shower and a half tub, an uncommon feature in this class that adds comfort for longer stays onboard. Access to the engine room is also located off this cabin, allowing for straightforward maintenance access.

Forward of the main cabin, the V-berth provides a separate sleeping area for guests or family, along with its own private wet head. This division of spaces creates a clear separation between owner and guest accommodations, making the layout well-suited for cruising with multiple people aboard.
