Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 423

Huaka’i is a well-equipped and extensively upgraded example of the popular Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 423, configured in the desirable two-cabin, two-head layout and proven through genuine long-distance cruising. Designed by Groupe Finot, the 423 combines a spacious, light-filled interior with responsive sailing characteristics and a practical deck plan that works equally well underway, at anchor, or living aboard.

The two-cabin arrangement makes particularly good use of the yacht’s generous interior volume. Panoramic glazing and a large overhead hatch bring abundant natural light into the saloon, where approximately 6’9″ of headroom enhances the already impressive sense of space. The layout provides a large U-shaped dining area to starboard, additional settee seating to port, a substantial galley, and excellent storage throughout. Forward, the owner’s stateroom features a centerline island berth with an upgraded custom mattress and private ensuite head with separate shower. A second head and comfortable double guest cabin are located aft.

The galley is designed for practical cruising, with both front- and top-loading Frigoboat refrigeration, a three-burner gimballed propane stove with oven, double stainless-steel sinks, microwave, generous cabinetry, and substantial work surfaces. Combined with her large water capacity and onboard watermaker, Huaka’i is well suited to extended periods away from marinas.

Proven Cruising Capability

Huaka’i is not simply equipped for cruising – she has already demonstrated her capabilities offshore! Her cruising history includes voyages from the Pacific Northwest south through Mexico and onward into the South Pacific before returning to Mexico.

Her sail plan has been thoughtfully configured for manageable short-handed sailing. The fully battened mainsail incorporates three reef points and an upgraded Tides Marine sail track, while the 130% furling genoa received renewed UV protection in 2023. Additional inventory includes a lightly used reefable staysail, unused storm sail, and North gennaker carried on a Profurl Spinex top-down furler. All control lines are led aft, and an electric Lewmar self-tailing winch further simplifies sail handling.

The standing rigging was completely replaced in 2015 and has been regularly inspected. The mainsail and genoa were inspected in 2023, and the running rigging is reported to remain in excellent condition.

Upgraded for Self-Sufficient Cruising

Significant investment has been made in Huaka’i’s electrical and energy systems. Her house bank is centered around a 400Ah LiFePO4 battery installed in 2022, complemented by a 2024 AGM engine-start battery. Charging capacity includes 600 watts of solar, a Morningstar MPPT controller, and a high-output 150-amp Balmar alternator with upgraded regulator. A newer 3000-watt pure-sine-wave inverter supports AC loads away from shore power.

For extended time off-grid, she is also equipped with a Spectra Ventura 150DX watermaker, CruiseAir air conditioning, and a Webasto 90ST three-zone hydronic heating system with engine heat exchanger. Together, these systems give Huaka’i a level of autonomy particularly well suited to Mexico, the Sea of Cortez, the South Pacific, and other remote cruising grounds.

Engine & Mechanical Improvements

Her Volvo Penta D2-55A diesel has approximately 3,500 hours and has benefited from substantial recent work. In 2025, the engine cooling system was comprehensively renewed, including the heat exchanger, exhaust elbow, pumps, hoses, and exhaust hose. Motor mounts were also replaced, the alternator bracket reinforced, and additional engine-room ventilation and lighting installed.

A three-blade bronze feathering propeller with rope cutter provides efficient propulsion under power, while the direct-drive installation remains straightforward and accessible for servicing.

Navigation, Safety & Offshore Equipment

Huaka’i carries an extensive electronics and navigation package that includes Simrad chartplotter and radar, Raymarine ST60 wind, depth and speed instruments, Raymarine ST6001+ autopilot with wireless remote, Digital Yacht AIS transceiver, Icom M802 SSB with Pactor modem, and Standard Horizon VHF with AIS display and remote microphone.

Her offshore steering capabilities are supplemented by a Monitor windvane system, providing an efficient independent steering option for longer passages.

Safety equipment is equally comprehensive and includes a six-person liferaft, two EPIRBs, Lifesling, Digital Yacht Lifeguard MOB alarm, jacklines, multiple lifejackets, and extensive emergency equipment.

Built for Life at Anchor

The cockpit is spacious and comfortable, with a large folding-leaf table, substantial seating, and easy access through the walk-through transom to the swim platform and cockpit shower. A high bimini, dodger, extensive tropical shade panels, hatch covers, bug screens, and a complete custom storage cover provide exceptional protection from sun and weather.

A stainless-steel arch supports both the solar installation and dinghy davits. Included with the yacht is a 10-foot Walker Bay Genesis SLR dinghy with Tohatsu 9.8hp four-stroke outboard, giving the next owner a complete tender solution from day one.

Ground tackle is appropriately substantial for a serious cruising vessel, centered around a Rocna primary anchor with approximately 175 feet of chain and 250 feet of rode, handled by a Lofrans Tigres 1200-watt windlass.

Extensive Vessel-Specific Spares

Another meaningful benefit for a cruising buyer is the inventory of vessel-specific spares remaining aboard. These include a spare alternator, starter, domestic-water pump, air-conditioning pump, windlass gypsy, Monitor windvane components, toilet and bilge-pump rebuild parts, outboard components, engine regulator, numerous engine filters, and additional engine spares.

For a yacht intended to travel beyond easy access to marine suppliers, this inventory represents genuine practical value.

Revised Inventory. New Price.

Huaka’i was previously marketed at $149,500 with a much broader “fully loaded” inventory of non-essential extras. As her owners have now decided to continue their sailing plans aboard a multihull, they will be removing their personal belongings along with a number of these non-essential and non-vessel-specific items. The asking price has accordingly been reduced significantly in proportion.

For the next owner, the revised inventory creates an opportunity to acquire a thoroughly equipped and genuinely proven offshore cruiser at a substantially reduced price, while providing a clean slate to personalize the vessel around their own cruising plans.

Currently located in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico, Huaka’i is ideally positioned for exploring Mexico’s Pacific coast and Sea of Cortez or preparing for the next offshore passage. For sailors seeking the space and comfort of a larger cruising yacht without sacrificing manageable handling, self-sufficiency, and proven passagemaking capability, she deserves serious consideration.
