Island Packets are known worldwide for their high quality construction and durability and “Zephyr” is a beautiful example of these standards, combined with knowledgeable care taken by her owners.
Zephyr is a fine example of an Island Packet 32 fully ready for cruising. The previous owners sailed the boat to Tahaiti and Hawaii before sailing her to the Pacific Northwest, where she was used for many years during the summer months and kept on the hard during the winter. The vessel was eventually trucked to San Diego, where she was used for day sails and the occasional trips to Catalina until 2016.
The current owners purchased Zephyr in late 2016 and the vessel has been refitted and updated continuously to serve again as a cruising boat. Immediately following purchase, all of the standing rigging was replaced, the bottom was cleaned, sanded and repainted and the 12 V electrical system, including the charging system, was rewired by a certified marine electrician .
The new owner replaced the first generation navigation, wind and solar array with modern equipment, moving the chartplotter and autopilot controller to the helm station. A NMEA 2000 network was built in order to display wind, depth, AIS and navigation information at the helm on the chartplotter. A new DSC VHF radio and an AIS transceiver were installed to integrate with the chartplotter via the NMEA 2000 backbone.
From 2017 to 2020, the vessel was moored in Chula Vista Marina. During this period, refitting continued in order to prepare the boat for a cruising life in Mexico. The specific modifications are detailed under features and include new batteries, new sails, new solar panels and controller, auxillary bilge pumps, portable power supplies, etc.
Zephyr was sailed to La Paz, Mexico in November 2020 where she has been ever since. Refitting has continued as required by the conditions for cruising in the Sea of Cortez. For example, a new outboard and a hypalon dinghy were purchased in 2021 and folding dinghy davits were installed to hang the dinghy while in a marina. At 35 feet LOA, the folding davits allow Zephyr to be docked in a 36 foot slip with no overhang. In addition, the orginal manual windlass was replaced in 2022 with an electric windlass. Engine work was performed this spring and summer to bring the injectors and valve clearances up to spec.
At this point, Zephyr is in optimal shape to continue her life as a cruising boat. With classic good looks, exacting craftsmanship, and reliability, the IP32 is an unequaled choice for the knowledgeable cruising sailor. Here is your chance to own one of the finest production sailboats ever built, she is in excellent condition and ready to sail away!
